I purchased this fireplace screen at a flea market last fall. I knew instantly that I wanted it as soon as I saw it! It was $35! A steal to me. It has sat in front of my fireplace since then doing it's job and adding a decorative flare as well. However today, I decided to paint it!
I went to Home Depot to purchase a spray paint I had used to paint a clock earlier this year, a textured gold, but they no longer had it!!??? Since I was in the mood to "spray paint" I instead chose a metallic bronze color, below, thinking it would match my coffee table and bar stools.
I painted the fireplace screen in my garage. Used one and one-half cans of paint. I let it dry in the garage for an hour and outside in the 100+ degree sun for 2 hours.
Once I brought it back inside, I had my doubts. My daughter is here visiting and she assures me that it actually looks better, not so glaring as the gold color was and is subtle in its appearance, yet decorative and it goes well with the fireplace. I'm not totally convienced. I want to add some "bling". It is still a long way off before I'll actually use the fireplace. I'll live with this color for awhile and see if it grows on me! What do you think?

Thanks White Weathered Hutch! Your're giving me courage to paint my kitchen table and chairs, as I sit on them typing this! LOL! They are also a goldish bronzy color. Thinking, thinking, thinking! Then to decide what would I recover the chairs seats in??? Decisions, decisions!

I like it better too. There is a product they used to call Rub and Bufff. I used a gold shade to highlight just the raised parts on the flowers of my painted wrought iron kitchen table. It came in a tube and I used my finger to “rub” It on and a cloth to buff it to a soft glow. If you tried it and didn’t like it, it’s no big deal to respray it again.
